The Garden of Understanding: FAQs

FAQs

I’m not sure that the respectful / gentle parenting approach is right for me.

Completely understandable! It’s important for you to feel confident and comfortable in your parenting choices. At Cultivating Parenthood, we recognize that there are many different approaches to parenting and we respect your unique journey. We strive to provide evidence-based strategies that empower parents to connect more meaningfully with their children. The latest science consistently shows that gentle and respectful parenting can have positive impacts on children's development and well-being. Our approach is gentle and respectful, but centralizes boundaries and only giving children age-appropriate control. We believe that the ultimate goal is to raise happy, healthy children who respect clear limits and thrive! We encourage you to explore the science behind it and make an informed decision for your family and we’re here to support and celebrate with you every step of the way - whether or not our approach is right for you. 💜

How long after I purchase my plan until we start?

This depends on what you’re interested in!

  • For the membership program, you’ll start as soon as the next video call. But you can jump in to the community chats right away, browse the membership blog for topics you are struggling with, or download the activities, reflections, and learning material as soon as you’re ready!

  • For the workshops (or the recorded workshops), you can start to implement strategies right away and work on the harder stuff over the next several weeks and months

  • For our individual packages, you’ll need to submit your intake and supplemental documentation first. Then comes your goals consult, the written plan you’ll get from us, and kickoff! So in total, it can take at least 5+ days before you begin.

Which topics are covered in your membership?

The Triggered to Transformation monthly membership covers some of the most common struggles parents have with children age 0 - 6. These include (but are not limited to): sleep resistance, tantrums, aggression, picky eating, sleep regressions, pacifier transitions, power struggles, sibling difficulties, toddler bed transition, potty learning, and so much more!

What are the benefits of joining the membership group?

Membership benefits include access to a library of resources, community forums, and exclusive webinars with our experts. We are here to provide you with support during the hardest parenting moments and provide actionable advice to improve your home environment. Members also receive discounts on workshops and coaching sessions.

How do I access the content and resources in my membership?

Once you sign up for a membership, you'll receive a login to access our members-only portal, where you'll find all of our content, resources, and community chats. You can access the portal from any device with an internet connection.

Any recommendations before beginning our work with you?

Yes! Self-care! Dealing with a child who has challenging behaviors and/or will not sleep is HARD WORK! Give yourself time to recharge so that you can show up as the steadfast leader that you are!

I bought the recorded sleep video but I think I would like the workbook as well.

If you purchased within the last 72 hours, just email us at so that we can send you a discount code for the add-on item! After 3 days, you’ll need to purchase as a separate add-on.

What if I'm not satisfied with my membership or program?

We believe strongly in the value of our programs and the impact they can have on your parenting journey. However, if you're not satisfied with your membership, please contact us and we'll do our best to address your concerns. For the membership, you are in full control of whether or not to renew your membership (though we hope you’ll stay!).

Is my child too old/young for your programs?

Great question! Our program is designed to support parents of children from newborn to six years old, so if your kiddo is between those ages you’re good to go! For children 6+ years old, we recommend speaking with your pediatrician about specialists to support your goals. We believe that the principles of mindful and evidence-based parenting are applicable at all stages of a child's development, and our approach is tailored to meet the needs of each individual family. Whether you are a new (or expectant) parent looking for guidance, or a seasoned pro seeking to refine your skills, we are here to help you cultivate a deeper and more meaningful connection with your child.

What is the difference between the membership, workshops, and 1-on-1 coaching?

The parent membership is a monthly subscription that grants access to a library of exclusive resources, a supportive and engaging community, and exclusive monthly video calls. Workshops are one-time events where parents can learn specific skills from our experts. And our 1-on-1 coaching provides personalized guidance and support from a a member of the Cultivating Parenthood team.

How can I determine which option is right for me?

We recommend considering your goals and preferred learning style. If you prefer self-paced learning, a supportive community, and/or access to a wide variety of resources, the parent membership may be the best fit. If you prefer a more hands-on approach, coaching may be a better fit. Or if you are just looking for an overview of a topic, the workshops are the way to go!

Can I upgrade to a different option?

Yes, you can! Just be sure to email us within 72 hours of any purchase to get a discount code which will credit the amount you spent on the lower plan and apply it to the higher option you would like to upgrade to! If you are switching from a package to a membership or vice versa, we will likely need to refund and initiate a new purchase with you.

Do you help with behavioral AND sleep problems?

We do! We offer our monthly membership, as well as our private consults and workshops which address any number of behavioral and sleep difficulties. Also, keep in mind that many of the strategies you’ll learn for one concern can apply to many other concerns in parenting!

Why do you say sleep and behavior are skills?

Both behavior and sleep are a wonderful mix of biology AND skill building. On the biology side, we have things like dopamine (feel good hormone), cortisol (stress hormone), our circadian rhythm (for children older than ~4 months old), adenosine (i.e. sleep pressure), and various other hormones.

But even when the biology is working perfectly, reality can sometimes be less perfect. That’s when the skill building comes in - nearly every behavioral or sleep struggle can be improved by scaffolding skills, altering the environment, and/or changing our approach.

There's no one "magic strategy" that'll work for ALL
children or ALL situations. That’s why we help you identify which factor(s) may be negatively affecting your specific child and develop a plan that will improve your child's SKILLS from the very first week. Then we let their biology work its magic!

I’d love to do a collab!

We love connecting with other child- or parent-centered businesses, podcasts, and social accounts. If you are interested in collaborating, please email us (much quicker than DMs)!
