The Garden of Understanding: FAQs
FAQs
I’m not sure that the respectful / gentle parenting approach is right for me.
Completely understandable! First, let’s make sure we are defining gentle parenting the same way - read through this quick blog to make sure we are on the same page…
It’s important for you to feel confident and comfortable in your parenting choices. At Cultivating Parenthood, we recognize that there are many different approaches to parenting and we respect your unique journey.
We strive to provide evidence-based attachment-focused strategies that empower parents to connect more meaningfully with their children and the latest science consistently shows that gentle (or what we like to call conscious or respectful parenting) can have positive impacts on children's development and well-being.
Our approach is gentle and respectful, but centralizes boundaries and only giving children age-appropriate control while also teaching attunement so that the child’s autonomy is not overlooked.
We believe that the ultimate goal is to raise happy, healthy children who respect clear limits not out of fear but out of cooperation!
We encourage you to explore the science behind it and make an informed decision for your family and celebrate your journey, whether or not our approach is right for you. 💜

We recommend considering your goals and preferred learning style. If you prefer self-paced learning, a supportive community, and/or access to a wide variety of resources, the parent membership may be the best fit. If you prefer a more assisted or hands-on approach, coaching may be a better fit. Or if you are just looking for an overview on a topic, see our other offerings.

Any recommendations before beginning our work with you?
Self-care. Successfully coping with a child who is experiencing any sort of challenging behaviors and/or will not sleep is HARD WORK…add on a hearty dose of unhealed trauma or reparenting needs and this is some hard work! Give yourself time to recharge BEFORE work begins and throughout your program(s) so that you can show up as the steadfast leader that we know you are!
I bought the recorded video but I think I would like the workbook as well.
If you purchased within the last 72 hours, just email us at so that we can send you a discount code for the add-on item! After 3 days, you’ll need to purchase as a separate add-on.
What if I'm not satisfied with my membership or program?
We believe strongly in the value of our programs and the impact they can have on your parenting journey. However, if you're not satisfied with your membership or individual program, please contact us and we'll do our best to address your concerns. And remember that you are always in full control of whether or not you renew your membership (though we always hope you’ll stay and request you reach out to us first so we can try to help!).
Is my child too old/young for your programs?
Great question! Specific age limits can often be more rudimentary (especially for our neurospicy kiddos) so we prefer to let parents decide or discuss during an initial consult. And we always recommend speaking with your pediatrician about specialists to support your goals and to ensure your provider team is on the same page with goals. We believe that the principles of mindful and evidence-based parenting are applicable at all stages of a child's development, and our approach is tailored to meet the needs of each individual family. Whether you are a new (or expectant) parent looking for guidance, or a seasoned pro seeking to refine your skills, we are here to help you cultivate a deeper and more meaningful connection with your child.
How long after I purchase my plan until we start?
Great question…This depends on what program you are interested in. Check the fine print and if all else fails, send us an email or text and one of our staff members can let you know!
Do you help with behavioral AND sleep problems?
Yes we do! Our monthly membership, as well as our private consults and other offerings address any number of behavioral and sleep difficulties. Also, keep in mind that many of the strategies you’ll learn for one concern can apply to many others that you will encounter along your parenting journey!
Why do you say sleep and behavior are skills?
Both behavior and sleep are a wonderful mix of biology AND skill building. On the biology side, we have things like dopamine (feel good hormone), cortisol (stress hormone), our circadian rhythm (for children older than ~4 months old), adenosine (i.e. sleep pressure), and various other hormones.
But even when the biology is working perfectly, reality can sometimes be less perfect. That’s when the skill building and attunement come in - nearly every behavioral or sleep struggle can be improved by scaffolding skills, altering the environment, and/or changing our approach while always supporting your child’s emotional needs.
And I hate to break it to you, but there's no one "magic strategy" that'll work for ALL children or ALL situations.
I know, probably bad business to spill that little industry secret haha.
But that’s why we help you identify which factor(s) may be negatively affecting your specific child(ren)
(not to mention, you/the environment, etc.) and develop a plan that will improve SKILLS from the very first week.
Then we let biology work its magic! ✨
I’d love to do a collab!
